The Internship Programme at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy, is designed to attract talented young women and men who are strongly motivated to share their new perspectives, innovative ideas, and latest academic experiences within FAO’s domains. This program aims to provide participants with a learning opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments in fields related to the work of FAO.
Organizational Setting: FAO leads international efforts to defeat hunger and achieve food security for all, ensuring that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. With 195 member countries, FAO operates in over 130 countries worldwide.
Programme Objectives: The Internship Programme aims to:
- Attract talented young individuals who are highly motivated to share their new perspectives, innovative ideas, and academic experiences.
- Provide a learning opportunity for participants to supplement their academic knowledge with practical work assignments.
- Contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and FAO’s Strategic Framework to support the 2030 Agenda through the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
Reporting Lines: Interns will report to an assigned supervisor within the FAO.
Technical Focus: Interns will be assigned to different fields of work according to their profiles and the needs of the organization.
Tasks and Responsibilities: The specific functions of the intern will be detailed in the Terms of Reference (TOR) prepared by the hiring office.
Minimum Requirements:
- Enrollment in an undergraduate, graduate degree program in a bona fide educational institution at the time of application, or recent graduates.
- Specialization in a field relevant to the mission and work of FAO.
- Working knowledge of at least one FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish). Knowledge of a second FAO language is an asset.
- Nationals of FAO Member countries.
- Candidates should be aged between 21 and 30.
- Ability to adapt to an international multicultural environment and have good communication skills.
