The World Trade Organization (WTO) is offering young professionals from developing and least-developed countries the opportunity to gain work experience in the WTO through its Young Professionals Programme 2023. The programme provides a starting salary of CHF 3,500 monthly (approximate) and is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of young professionals on WTO and international trade issues.

Benefits of the Young Professionals Programme

Selected young professionals will be placed in a specific division of the WTO Secretariat in accordance with the needs and priorities of the organization. They will have the opportunity to express their interests in not more than three areas of WTO work, and in order of preference. The areas of work may include accessions, agriculture, trade negotiations, dispute settlement, economic research and statistics, government procurement, intellectual property rights, market access, media and external relations, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade and development, trade and environment, trade facilitation, trade and gender, trade in services and investment, trade policy analysis, trade-related technical assistance, and trade remedies. By the end of the programme, young professionals will have gained practical experience and developed their skills to prepare them for future roles in international trade.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the WTO Young Professionals Programme, applicants must be university graduates up to the age of 32 years, as at 1 January 2023, from eligible developing and least-developed country (LDC) WTO Members. They must have an advanced university degree in law, economics, or other international trade-related subjects relevant to the work of the WTO, a minimum of two years of professional experience relevant to the work of the WTO, and fluency in English. A good working knowledge of French or Spanish would be an advantage.

Application Procedure

To apply for the programme, applicants must submit their applications through the e-recruitment system along with their cover letter of motivation. Only applications from nationals of WTO Members will be accepted, and female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply to this programme. The application deadline is 13 April 2023.
