About the Internship:

The New York Office (NYO) of UNHCR serves as a vital link in representing UNHCR in various UN processes. It collaborates closely with UNHCR Headquarters, regional bureaus, country operations, and key UN entities including the General Assembly, Security Council, and Economic and Social Council. NYO also engages with Permanent Missions of UN Member States, NGOs, and civil society organizations to advocate for UNHCR’s mandate and positions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting stakeholder mapping exercises to identify diverse stakeholders in NYC and devising outreach plans to enhance UNHCR engagement.
  • Developing communication materials such as one-pagers, brochures, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assisting in logistics and planning coordination for events like World Refugee Day.
  • Attending UN meetings, briefings, and press events and providing relevant updates to UNHCR NY office personnel.

Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Recent graduate or current student in a relevant field from an accredited university.
  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate studies.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Information.
  • Strong interest in international relations, refugee issues, and humanitarian response.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
