Background:
UN Women is currently seeking interns to support the operations and program team in the Nigeria country office.
Responsibilities:
As an intern with the Operations team at UN Women’s Nigeria country office in Abuja, you will assist in various functions including finance, human resources, travel logistics, procurement, general office administration, and ICT. You will gain insights into the workings of the UN, collaborative efforts among UN agencies, operational procedures, their significance in program delivery, and the synergy between operations and programs in achieving our goals.
Under the supervision of the UN Women Nigeria CO Operations Manager, you will undertake the following tasks:
Finance Support:
Assist in filing and scanning finance documents, preparing payment schedules, and supporting finance processes. Human Resources Support: Aid in the recruitment process from advertisement to selection and onboarding. Procurement Support: Assist in procurement processes for the office and program delivery, including updating vendor rosters.
UN Common Services and Joint Operational Activities:
Support collaborative activities among UN agencies in Abuja.
General Administration:
Provide assistance in administrative tasks such as filing and developing an e-registry system.
CT Support:
Assist in providing ICT services to UN Women personnel and programs.
Internship Program Objective:
The Internship Programme aims to provide students, individuals enrolled in mandatory national service programs, and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds with exposure to gender equality issues and firsthand experience in the day-to-day operations of UN Women.
Interns will gain familiarity with UN Women’s policies and procedures and acquire experience in providing operational support to programs and personnel.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Education:
- University studies required in disciplines such as Social Sciences, Administration, Management, Economics, Accounting, or relevant subjects.
- Also acceptable: Science and Technology fields like Computer Sciences, Mathematics, or relevant subjects.
- Criteria to meet:
- Enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Graduated with a university degree and starting the internship within one year of graduation.
- Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program as part of a degree program.
- Enrolled in a mandatory national service program, where the internship may be included.
- Language:
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral) are mandatory.
- Proficiency in another UN language is advantageous.
- Remuneration:
- Interns without external financial support will receive a stipend from UN Women to help cover basic living expenses during the internship.
