The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is a not-for-profit, private land conservation organization that works to protect Canada’s most significant natural areas and the species that inhabit them. Job Purpose and Description:
The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is seeking a communications intern to join their Ontario Region team in 2023. The intern will work with the communications and fundraising teams and assist in content development, outreach, research, and promotional activities.

The intern will help develop regional content for NCC’s digital and print publications, promote NCC’s activities in communities across Ontario, coordinate virtual and in-person events, and create materials for donors. They will also assist with the organization of digital assets.

The position provides a valuable opportunity for the successful candidate to apply classroom theory to practical and hands-on work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
– Developing content for various audiences and distribution channels
– Researching and writing stories to showcase NCC’s conservation impact
– Conducting interviews with staff or external sources as needed
– Assisting in coordinating and delivering events, marketing and communications activities
– Creating, editing, and cataloging digital assets
– Updating and editing NCC’s website for the Ontario section
– Supporting both communications and fundraising teams with ongoing activities
– Researching key markets and/or prospective donors.

Required Skills and Attributes:
– Strong interpersonal skills and confidence with journalistic-style interviewing techniques
– Excellent writing skills with the ability to identify and tell great stories
– Experience in editing, proofreading, and fact-checking
– Appreciation for nature, ecology, wildlife, habitat conservation, and the outdoors
– Highly organized and detail-oriented
– Interest and/or experience in public engagement and communicating environmental topics
– Self-starter, proactive, and able to work independently or in a team setting

Terms of Employment:
– 3.5-month position from May 18, 2023, until August 31, 2023, with the possibility of extension
– Compensation: $19.40/hour
– Based out of their home office, preferably in southern Ontario
– May require occasional weekend and evening work
