What you will do?

If you’re passionate about empowering young women to succeed in both their academic and personal lives, this internship is the perfect opportunity for you. Gender discrimination poses a significant challenge for women in Tanzania, where they are often expected to conform to traditional domestic roles.

As an intern, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the next generation of talented young women by increasing their educational opportunities and boosting their confidence to pursue successful careers.

Your academic support role will involve assisting girls with homework, assignments, and exam preparation across various subjects. Although you won’t act as a teacher, you’ll encourage them to recall information from their classes.

In terms of personal development, you’ll help the girls build self-esteem and confidence by engaging in conversations about their lives and challenges. Your objective will be to help them overcome any obstacles and encourage them to set and attain their goals.

On the social development side of things, you will educate the girls about social issues, including inequality, unemployment, and teenage pregnancy. You’ll aim to foster an understanding of societal issues and ways in which they can address them.

Intern Responsibilities:

As an intern, you’ll be paired with specific girls and conduct 1-2 online mentoring sessions per week to provide tailored support. These sessions are designed to be conversations rather than lessons and typically run for 1-2 hours. You’ll communicate with the girls via email or WhatsApp during the week to track their progress and determine the nature of each session.

Benefits:

This internship offers several career benefits, including opportunities to gain mentorship and education experience. You’ll gain knowledge on the challenges that young girls face in Tanzania and acquire strategies for overcoming these difficulties. Additionally, you’ll build competence in researching contemporary social issues and effectively communicating them to teenage girls. This experience will help you build professional relationships with local staff and talented girls in Tanzania.
