Overview of USA TODAY’s Summer Internship Program :
USA TODAY is currently offering a paid Summer Internship Program for college students to work alongside experienced reporters, editors, photographers, and videographers in producing high-quality journalism. The program span 10 weeks and is designed to provide interns with a professional-level experience that will sharpen their critical thinking and analytical skills.
Responsibilities and Requirements for Interns :
The program requires interns to work independently and collaboratively with various teams assigned to the nation, opinion, entertainment, politics, audience, visuals, graphics, and consumer news. Responsibilities include pitching story ideas, reporting, editing copy, creating videos, graphics, and photographs, as well as writing articles, scripts, photo captions, and social media content. Interns will also be assigned mentors and attend weekly training sessions.
Requirements:
To qualify for the program, applicants must demonstrate their enrollment in a high school, college, or university, and possess a strong command of AP writing, spelling, grammar, and style. Previous experience in an internship, freelance work, or student newspaper is preferred but not required. Journalism majors are welcome, but the program is open to other areas of expertise and training. Language skills beyond English are a plus.

Candidates must submit a single document file in PDF format that includes a resume, cover letter, and links to 4 online work samples such as videos, photographs, or articles.
The cover letter should explain why the applicant is interested in the program, how their previous experience makes them a strong candidate, and which department(s) suit their interests. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.
Note: Applicants with professional, full-time journalism experience are excluded from USA TODAY’s Internship Programs as the program is intended for emerging journalists. The program’s minimum salary is $15.00 per hour. Housing and transportation are not provided, and relocation is not required. If selected for a driving role, a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and minimum liability insurance required by state law are necessary.
